Eduard Cuelenaere has earned a joint PhD in Communication Sciences (Ghent University) and in Theatre Studies and Intermediality (University of Antwerp).

He is a film scholar who is interested in how the growing phenomenon of recycling content (film remakes, sequels, …) reflects the evolving state of film cultures and industries within the realm of (streaming) European cinema.

To explore the intricate relationship between the audiovisual industry, society, and culture, he employs an interdisciplinary approach, drawing from film studies, audience studies, cultural studies, and (critical) media industry studies.

He has taught several courses at different institutions, mainly on film and audiovisual media, international communication, and adaptation studies.
